County Jail Mentoring
Program Overview
City Hope runs mentorship programs with women at the San Francisco County Jail as well as with men and women living at the City Hope House, our transitional sober living home. The men and women we work with often have stories of homelessness, incarceration, job loss, addiction and broken families. The challenges faced as they prepare for the transition to independent living are numerous, from finding a job and a place to live, to being re-integrated into a non-sober environment. The prospect can seem overwhelming and lonely.
Our goal is two-fold: 1) help people articulate their goals for their future (we don't provide the answers!) and 2) provide an example of a healthy relationship for them to model upon release from jail or graduation from the City Hope Home (learning to build trust).
Our values are: respect, trust, listening well and reciprocity.
Volunteering
Mentoring is a longer term (approx. 8 months) commitment that becomes available based on the number of mentees and mentors available. Mentors visit mentees weekly and both mentors and mentees commit to monthly trainings.
If you are interested in being considered as a mentor, please contact Paul Trudeau, Executive Director.
