About City Hope

 

City Hope is a progressive and inclusive faith-based non-profit focused on providing a trusted gathering place for our most marginalized neighbors in the Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco. At City Hope everyone is welcome, respected and celebrated. City Hope consists of three programs: the City Hope Community Center, the City Hope Cafe, and the City Hope House.

 

The City Hope Community Center provides a safe space to enjoy homemade meals with neighbors and participate in community building activities such as movie night, bingo and karaoke. The City Hope Cafe is a free coffee house for our neighbors providing fresh coffee, pastries, and resources in partnership with local nonprofits. The City Hope House is a two-year transitional sober living home for individuals who have graduated from a recovery program and are working on strengthening their financial, professional and personal lives in order to transition successfully to independent living.

Job Summary

 

City Hope is seeking an experienced Part-Time Grant Writer to identify, develop, and manage grant opportunities that support our mission and programs. The Grant Writer will collaborate with the Executive Director and key team members to craft compelling proposals, manage grant reporting, and maintain strong relationships with funding partners. This role is ideal for someone passionate about social impact, skilled in storytelling, and experienced in nonprofit fundraising.
 

Responsibilities and Duties

 

Grant Writing & Management

  • Research and identify grant opportunities aligned with City Hope’s mission and programs.

  • Write and submit clear, compelling, and tailored grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and supporting documents.

  • Collaborate with program staff to gather programmatic details, impact data, and stories to include in grant applications.

 

Grant Reporting

  • Track and manage deadlines for grant proposals, renewals, and reports.

  • Prepare and submit detailed, accurate, and timely grant reports to funders.

  • Ensure compliance with grant requirements and deliverables. 

 

Fund Development Support

  • Build and maintain relationships with foundation representatives and other funding partners.

  • Stay informed about trends in philanthropy, particularly in areas related to City Hope’s mission.

  • Work with the Executive Director to strategize funding goals and priorities.

 

Documentation & Organization

  • Maintain accurate records of grant applications, awards, and reports in a shared database or system.

  • Create templates and materials for future grant applications.

 

Qualifications

 

Required Skills & Experience:

• Proven experience in grant writing with a successful track record of securing funding.

• Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with exceptional attention to detail.

• Proficiency in research and ability to analyze funding opportunities.

• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize tasks effectively.

• Familiarity with nonprofit programming, budgeting, and reporting.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with marginalized or underserved communities.

• Knowledge of philanthropy and funding landscapes in the San Francisco Bay Area.

• Proficiency in grant management tools and CRM software.
