Loving Our Neighbors

The goal of City Hope is to love and serve our neighbors in their time of need. For us to truly love our neighbors, we must first understand God’s love for them.

Throughout scripture we read of God’s heart for those who are oppressed and suffering. In Exodus we see the character of God’s loving compassion:

The Lord said, “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering.”

As we learn about God’s character, we also learn of God’s desire to bring about redemption and healing.

“A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families, he leads the prisoners with singing.” Psalm 68:5-6

In the gospels we see this love lived out through Christ’s life, as he welcomed outcasts, healed the sick, fed the hungry, and preached good news to the poor.

To love our neighbors, we must align our hearts with the heart of God. We must hear the cries, see the suffering, and feel the pain of our neighbors in need. Only then can we truly know God and join God’s healing work.

Serving Our Neighbors

All too often we feel overwhelmed by the magnitude of our city’s painful problems. We hear about San Francisco’s troubles and continue to walk by our neighbors in need. Although we care, we may not know how to best serve the needs of our city.

Through City Hope, we seek to meet the needs of San Francisco with compassion, wisdom, and commitment.

City Hope’s service ministries started with a  simple home cooked meal at the Leland House AIDS Hospice. This initial desire to serve has grown into many diverse opportunities to meet our neighbors in their time of need.

Whether it is through praying with inmates in County  Jail, delivering care packages to the poor,  or visiting the elderly, City Hope continues to prioritize building relationships of healing through faithful service.
